​North Canterbury Crime Report for Waimakariri/Hurunui

Police Crime reports November 2022
Police have noticed an upsurge in offenders targeting unlocked vehicles around the Waimakariri townships

​Tuesday 15 November
  • A suspicious car was seen on South Eyre Road.  The numberplate was obtained by the witness and enquiries are ongoing.
  • A suspicious male was seen in a vehicle in Woodend.  The numberplate was incorrectly recorded.  Please call 111 at the time if you see any suspicious behaviour.
  • Copper earth wires were stolen from power poles in Leithfield and Loburn.
 
Wednesday 16 November
  • A handbag was stolen from a vehicle parked in McQuillan Avenue, Woodend.
  • An unlocked vehicle parked in Pines Beach was entered and a bag was stolen while the owners were briefly absent.
  • A drone was reported flying over a property in Sefton.  
  • Vehicles parked at the boat ramp near State Highway 1 were broken into.
  • Tagging was discovered on play equipment in Barnes Street, Pegasus.
 
Thursday 17 November
  • A burglary was reported to a vacant property in Chalet Crescent in Hanmer Springs.  Detergent was poured over the floors.
  • A Nissan Navara was stolen from Kaiapoi.  It was located the next morning in Springfield.
  • A vehicle parked in West Belt, Rangiora, had its numberplate stolen and replaced with another set.
  • Two unlocked vehicles parked in Dunns Avenue, Pines Beach, were entered and property stolen.
  • A suspicious vehicle was seen in Kennedys Hill Road.
  • Vehicles were observed doing burnouts on Oxford Road near Mt Thomas Road.
 
Thursday 17 to Friday 18 November
  • A wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Dunns Avenue, Pines Beach.
 
Friday 18 November
  • A canopy side window was stolen from a Ute parked in Pines Beach.
  • A Kaiapoi male was charged with Driving Whilst Disqualified after being stopped in Kaiapoi.
  • The inside of a truck cab was set alight near Bob Robertson Drive in Ravenswood.  Fire extinguishers were also set off on other equipment nearby.
 
Friday 18 to Saturday 19 November
  • A vehicle was stolen from an address in Sefton and located nearby.
 
Saturday 19 November
  • A Kaiapoi male was processed for Driving with Excess Breath Alcohol after being stopped in Waikuku.
  • An Ashburton male was processed for Driving with Excess Breath Alcohol after being stopped in Kaiapoi.
 
Sunday 20 November
  • A vehicle parked in a car park on High Street, Rangiora, had a window smashed.
  • A Dunedin male was processed for Driving with Excess Breath Alcohol after being stopped in Glasnevin.
  • A Christchurch male was processed for Driving Whilst Suspended after being stopped in Rangiora.

​Monday 7th – Tuesday 8th November 2022
  • A commercial yard in Todds Road in Rangiora was entered and a roof top tent was stolen from a vehicle parked there, and four wheels for a Ford Courier in the same yard.
  • A Nissan Safari was stolen from a Bush Street address in Rangiora.

Saturday 5th – Sunday 6th November 2022
  • Two electric skateboards with off-road tyres were stolen from The Esplanade in Pegasus.
  • A toilet at Victoria Park was damaged by someone setting fire to an item of clothing. A rubbish bin nearby was also set alight around the same time.

​Saturday 5th November 2022
  • A male was disturbed near a vehicle parked on Page Place in Rangiora.
  • A Swannanoa male was processed for driving with excess breath alcohol after being stopped in Woodend.
  • A Rangiora male was processed for driving whilst disqualified after being stopped in Church Street.
  • A Loburn male was processed for driving with excess breath alcohol after being stopped on Southbrook Road.

Friday 4th November 2022
  • Several drone sightings have been reported around the Swannanoa and Eyrewell areas. Just a reminder to drone operators that you must obtain consent from the property owner before flying over property, and you must not fly at night.
  • An Auckland male was processed for driving with excess breath alcohol after being stopped in Amberley.

Thursday 3rd – Friday 4th November 2022
  • A reversing camera was stolen of a VW van parked in Kaiapoi.

Thursday 3rd November 2022
  • A Nissan Tiida was stolen from Hanmer Springs.
  • A person was seen on a property in Montrose Avenue in Culverden.
  • A Tasman male was arrested for indecent exposure after an incident at the Ashley River.
  • A male was disturbed on a property near Worlingham Road in Eyrewell.

Wednesday 2nd – Thursday 3rd November 2022
  • A house staged for sale in Helmore Street in Rangiora was entered and a clock, two wardrobe doors and a couch was stolen.
  • Number plates were stolen off a vehicle parked in Peak Crescent in Kaiapoi.
  • Commercial yard in Amberley was broken into and fuel and a trailer were stolen.
  • A tradie’s vehicle parked in Courage Road, Amberley, was broken into and tools were stolen

Wednesday 2nd November 2022
  • A tradie’s vehicle parked in Walker Street, Kaiapoi, was broken into and tools were stolen.
  • A person was disturbed in a vehicle on Sidey Quay, Kaiapoi. The victim called Police at the time and dogs tracked for a short time, however the offender was not located.

Monday 31st October – Tuesday 1st November 2022
  • A vehicle parked at the Ferry Road carpark by the Waimakariri River was broken into. Nothing was stolen. 
  • A vehicle parked in Amberley had a window smashed and wallet and electronics were stolen
